How to Draw A Squid – Let's Get Started!
Step 1
As we begin this guide on how to draw a squid, we will begin with the head. Many squids have large, round eyes, and you can draw these using some oval shapes with big pupils within.
Then, we will be drawing the long upper section of the head that goes above the eyes. This will look a bit like it's wearing a long hat, and it will have some sharp fins poking off of the sides.
Then you will be ready for the second step of the guide!
Step 2 – Now, start drawing the first tentacles
Squids have many twisty tentacles, and we will start drawing them in this step of your squid drawing.
Use some curvy lines extending from below the head to start the tentacles, and you can also change how they are positioned a bit if you wish.
For the tentacles where you will see the bases of them, you can draw a whole lot of small circle shapes for the suction cups found there.
Once you have drawn these first tentacles, you can finish off this step by drawing some simple line details onto the body of the squid.
Step 3 – Keep drawing the tentacles for the squid
Continuing with what you started in the previous step of this guide on how to draw a squid, we will be adding more tentacles to the animal.
First, start this step off by drawing the rest of the tentacles that you started but didn't finish in the prior step.
Then, we will be adding a different kind of tentacle to the ones that you drew earlier. This one will have a long, thin stalk and end in a thick and pointy dotted section at the end.
We will have just a few more to add, so when you're ready we can proceed to step 4 of the guide.
Step 4 – Next, draw some more tentacles for the squid
You can never have too many tentacles when creating a squid drawing, so we will add some more in this part!
First, draw another of those alternate tentacles that have a long, thin stalk with a thicker end portion.
Once that is drawn, you can also add another portion of the regular tentacle onto one of the others that you started earlier.
There will then just be a few final details to add before you get to the final step of coloring in, so let's take care of those details in the next part!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your squid drawing
This step of our guide on how to draw a squid will be all about finishing off these final touches before you color it in.
There will also be a chance for you to add some additional details of your own as well! Before that, let's add the final touches.
These will be composed mainly of a few extra regular tentacles poking out from any empty spaces left on the squid.
Once these final ones are drawn and detailed, you'll be ready to move on! Before you do, be sure to add any extra details or ideas of your own.
One idea would be to draw background, and if you did that then you could incorporate any other sea creatures that you love.
You could even turn this into a giant squid by drawing it towering over an unfortunate ship! What other ideas can you think of to finish it off? We can't wait to see the creative ideas you have for this image!
Step 6 – Finish off your squid drawing with color
For the final part of this squid drawing, you can finish it off with some color. In our reference image, we went for some lovely pink shades to finish off our picture.
The good news is that squids can come in pretty much any color you can imagine! That gives you a great deal of freedom with how you could color this one in.
No colors are off-limits, so this is your chance to let your color creativity flow! When you have chosen your colors, you can then pick which art tools and mediums you'll use to achieve them.
You could go for paint mediums such as acrylics and watercolors or maybe go for something like colored markers, pencils or crayons.
These are just a few of the options at your disposal, so what will you use to complete this amazing drawing?
